T h e F o r m a t i o n
While some of us were toiling our brains for the school day project
that we took up, some of the others were thinking well ahead of the
rest and proposed to make this an official organization and to get it
registered. And so we registered the association with the funds that
were collected there instantly at the School day function. Swami’s
words that funds will never be a limiting factor to a Sai activity
has always held fats even to this day and to this moment. We never
encountered any difficulty for funds at any time. Contributions flew
from all sides and never stopped a planned activity.
We always ended up with a handsome balance. More important is that
funds came in when we required the most. As and when we needed
more, some unregistered students would come and pitch in their
membership fee. Events of such unsolicited patronage of funds stood
testimony to the purity and purpose behind our actions as a group
and veered us in the appropriate direction. We were satisfied and
encouraged by the fact that Swami was guiding us all the while.
The school day and association day---- was a big hit. We prepared
and mailed out special invitations to all the old students.
A special area was allotted for old students and our membership
rose from hundred to two hundred in just an hour. Old students
presented two special items for the school day. One was the
wonderful song Tu Pyaar ka sagar hai, praising our beloved Lord
and the other was the Tug of war, which the old students won very
dramatically, despite being old (and in spite of PT sir’s hand on
the other side). Winning the ceremonial Volleyball and Throw ball
games became a habit to the old students and so did the two groups
of old students (boys and girls) received their prizes yet again.
The objective of this narration is to re-live those golden days of
the past and meet all those we moved with, all those we fought
with, all those we adored and all those we loved. Not forgetting
our teachers, whom, though we call “teachers”, are more like our
friends, who take pride in looking at all of us as their children
and recalling how they taught (sometimes sweetly and sometimes
with a little bitterness, all for our improvement) and in the
process, feel the joy as we relate our achievements. That very
day, the name STUDENTS OF SAI took birth as the official title of
our association and everyone began to address it with love as SOS.
We nominated a body of members to plan and coordinate all our
activities. Although the composition of the body changed with time,
the core members remained intact, as did the spirit. As the size of
the family began to grow, responsibilities also grew in proportion
and students started to distribute work.
This was the beginning of the blooming of our SOS flower.
